The typical mind rejects silence, quietude. It’s really a defining difference between a regular mind and, say, an “awakened” mind. The mind spins, goes round and round. And is “happy” to do so, for the sake of it. There’s an excitement to that. An unreflective excitement. Caught up in itself. Like a merry-go-round. For some people the beginning of the pathless path is the spotting of the merry-go-round, a glimpse that it doesn’t go anywhere. That the mind is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Such a spinning mind rejects quietude. Much like a centrifugal force that pushes out what comes near to it, it pushes out quietude, so it can continue “doing what it is doing”, for no reason at all.
